A comparative study of lung functions in non-smoker COPD patients from various localities with healthy subjects

Background & Objectives: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the illness with airflow obstruction caused by emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or a combination of both disorders. It third leading cause death worldwide. Between 20 and 40% all COPD patients across globe are never smokers. The primary objective this study was to evaluate Function Tests (PFTs) in non-smoker compare their results normal healthy subjects. also intended check variations lung function living urban rural areas.
 Materials Methods: conducted performing PFTs 50 (28 from 22 areas) comparing them subjects same age group excluding ex-smokers. Various parameters like FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, PEFR MVV were assessed compared. For statistical data analysis unpaired t-Test applied.
 Results: mean values PFT such as very significantly differed between (p<0.01). Although not statistically significant total patients, above higher than while compared (p>0.05). (p>0.05).
 Conclusion: indicates that subjects, there great reduction for PEFR, FEV1/FVC%, irrespective residing location which suggestive an increase air way reduced various parameters. shows no difference areas.
